Want to sharpen your higher education knowledge? Please join us for the annual Case Study Competition by signing up by January 10, 2025 using this link.  There will be two tracks, one for graduate students, and one for entry level professionals.  Participants will be paired and then given a prompt to present to a panel of judges during the professional development session on February 13, 2025 at 2 p.m. EST.  Winners will be announced during the annual SEAHO Conference.

Final sessions and format are still being curated but SEAHO-U's goals include:

• Encouraging rethinking and reimagining considerations for student and professional positions as institutions face complex challenges including increased accommodation requests, occupancy demands, heightened mental health concerns, and evolving facilities needs and uses.
• Present processes and strategies designed to enhance and sustain student and professional employee wellness and retention.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the past couple of months.  We had two superb professional development hours that highlighted our Career Services Committee and upcoming Case Study.

On September 26th, we collaborated with the Career Support Services Committee for Moving on Up Workshop. There were 20 attendees at the webinar. The committee provided some helpful tips about how to move up in Housing and Residence Life.

This past week, on October 24th, we hosted the Virtual Case Study Competition information session. Hello SEAHO! Applications for the SEAHO Next mentorship program are now live! SEAHO Next has been redesigned to encourage more mentorship opportunities in our region! We now have 2 tracks for members to join. Track 1 connects current graduate students with entry level professionals as their mentors; and Track 2  connects entry level professionals with middle and senior leadership in the region. We are seeking committee chair-select applications for our 2024-2026 year. There are 9 committees that have a chair and chair-select position each year: Assessment and Research, Career Support Services, Corporate Partners, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Engagement & Outreach, Marketing and Organization Promotions, Professional Development, Website Management, and Program. In addition to duties outlined in the Leadership Manual, expectations of Chair-Select/Chair are:

• Participate in planning process for committee throughout the year

• Read and respond to committee email and phone correspondence as appropriate

• Attend the Annual Conference and Mid-Year Meeting during your term as Chair 

• Attend Governing Council Committee Chair Training at the Annual Conference

• Refrain from taking on additional roles on other SEAHO committees or the host team

• Confirm Senior Housing Officer and Direct Supervisor approval and support to serve in this role

New chair-selects will begin shadowing current chairs immediately upon selection and will take over full committee chair responsibilities at the 2025 Annual Conference in Huntsville, Alabama.
